why bloodlines is 20 books (and why i'm not sorry)
People ask if the series is "really" going to be twenty books. Yes. Here's the plan, spoiler-free.

I started Bloodlines in a composition notebook during sophomore chemistry. It was supposed to be one book about one vampire. It is now four houses, a hundred named characters, and a city I know better than my hometown.
the structure
Four arcs of five books each. Arc one (books 1–5) is the treaty cracking. Arc two (6–10) is the war. Arc three is what's left. Arc four is the thing I can't tell you about yet.
Big stories need room. I'd rather write twenty books that earn their ending than three that rush it.
Book seven, Daughter of Embers, just came out. Book eight is drafted. I am fine. I am so fine.
